sweater pillow DIY

I saw the cutest sweater pillow the other day.  I don't remember where I saw it, but I loved it and wanted to create one for myself.

I love the way it looks in my living room on my brown leather couch!

I found this sweater at the thrift store for less than $5.  I bought an extra large so I would be sure to have enough sweater to work with.

I measured my feather pillow insert and figured out how big to sew the sweater.
I marked it with some straight pins.  (not pictured)

Then I turned it inside out and sewed around 3 sides, leaving the bottom of the sweater open.

Then I cut off the neck and arms (saving them for a later project).

I turned it right side out and stuffed the feather pillow inside.

To close the bottom of the pillow, I folded it similar to wrapping a gift:
sides in first, then the top, then the bottom.

Then I loosely whip stitched it closed.
When I am done with this cover, I can easily clip the thread,
undo the stitches and pull the cover off of the pillow.

Super simple and cozy for the season!!

Favorite Things 2014

One of my favorite blogs hosts a Favorite Things party every year.
It's so much fun!

I was asked to participate this year and am soooo honored!  Yay!
Thank you Melissa!!

Here are some of my favorite things:

These furry moccasins from Payless are wonderful!!
(This is not an affiliate link, I'm just sharing where I purchased my shoes)
They are as comfy as slippers and keep my feet snug and warm!
I wear them almost every day!

A new Dairy Queen just opened in my town.
It's kind of embarrassing how often I've gone in the short time it's been open.
My favorite treat there is the Pumpkin Pie blizzard.
Seriously, go get ya one before they are gone for the season.  So delicious!!

Another one of my favorite things are Arrows!!

I got the rusty one at the Nashville Flea market.
The bottom left I made from a vintage ruler.
The bottom right is a printable I made last month but never posted about it.
It is available here.

Another one of my favorite treats is White Chocolate Peppermint M&M's.
I'm not a milk chocolate fan at all.
But these?  I love them!!
I always stock up when they are available during the Holiday season.

And lastly, I think I've professed my love of chalkboards many times.
I'm still in love with them.
But I especially love vintage chalkboards,
the ones that look like they've been around the block a time or two.
If only they could tell the stories of the things that have been written on them!

Both of the boards in the top pic were found as is at Goodwill.
(I added the leaf/feather garland for fall.)
The one in the bottom pic was a picture that I bought
at Goodwill, took the art out and  painted the glass with chalkboard paint.
Now it is in my office with my blog name!

Warm and Sparkly Fall Vignette

Today I'm sharing a little fall vignette I did in our living room.

I'm going with a natural, gold and sparkly theme this year.

For the natural part I used a real mini pumpkin, twigs from my yard and chestnuts my son found when we went out for dinner a few weeks ago.

The sparkly is the gold vase filler and gold frame in the back ground.

Source list:

lampshade- Target (a few years ago)
sifters, spool- vintage
lamp, gold frame, tray- Goodwill
paper mache box, gold vase filler, black and white pumpkin, pinecone acorns- Hobby Lobby
gold polka dot pumpkin- made from dollar store pumpkin
candle wax warmer- walmart
candle stick- Kohl's (a few years ago)
