Football door hanger

My son is a high school football player.

I LOVE Friday night lights!

I love wearing school colors. going to the games
and cheering my heart out!

I wanted a way to show my spirit at home too,
so I came up with a football door hanger.

I started with this oval wooden plaque purchased
at my local craft store for a few dollars.

I gave the plaque a few coats of brown craft paint,
but I think it would look good stained as well.

After brown paint dried, I free hand painted the white football laces.

After everything was dried, I sanded the edges to distress it a bit.

Then I gave the plaque a coat of glossy varnish.

My plaque is hanging on the front door, under the porch
so it's protected from the elements.

If it weren't, I would have given it a coat of polyurethane,
or some sort of outdoor varnish
to make it able to withstand the weather better.

I cut my son's jersey number out of vinyl with my silhouette,

I put the vinyl onto the plaque over the varnish so it's removable.
That way, I can use the plaque for the Superbowl or another football activity.

Using a staple gun, I attached some twine to hang the plaque.

Then I tied purple and gold ribbons (my son's school colors) onto the twine.

I hung the plaque on my front door with a command hook.

My son was really excited to see his jersey number and our football pride on our front door!
