The chest started out just plain white.
It did it's job, but was not very pretty!
I picked up a sample of paint from Lowes.
I think Valspar Coral Mist is pretty close to the color I used.
(I threw the container out before writing it down.)
I added a bit of white paint to lighten it a bit.
I also added a little bit of unsanded grout and water to make my own chalk paint.
Here's the formula I used for DIY chalk paint:
1 8oz sample of paint
10 Tbsp white paint
8 Tbsp unsanded grout
4 Tbsp water
* mix very well!!
I didn't prime the chest at all.
I used 2 light coats of the DIY chalk paint,
followed by a light coat of wax. (amazon affiliate link)
After seeing the idea on Sweet Pickins facebook page,
I ordered some tissue paper from Zazzle.
I trimmed the tissue paper,
then used mod podge to adhere it to the drawer fronts.
When it all dried, I put the original hardware
(spiffed up with a coat of black spray paint)
back on the chest and moved it into my daughters room.
Here is the sweet, little chest in my daughter's room.
