Low and No Cost House Changes

There are many things that can change the look of your home without spending a fortune.  Check out these Low and No Cost ways to update your home.

Low and no cost house updates- update your home inexpensively or with no cost with these tips

I often wish I had a big house, with more space to entertain friends and family.  I'd also love updated appliances and flooring. And a subway tile backsplash.  And a media room.  And maybe a guest room.  While those things aren't in the cards right now, I have been able to update a few things in my house, even with dated flooring and no backsplash, to make it a home my family and I love!

Clean out cupboards

For real. It makes the biggest difference.  I recently cleaned out our dish cupboard.  I donated many random plastic cups and princess/spider-man dishes.  Then I grouped all the white dishes together in one cupboard.  It makes me so happy to look in this cupboard to see everything organized nice and neat!

Deep clean everything

Scrub out showers, toilets and sinks, wipe down counter tops and appliances, clean out the fridge, have carpets cleaned, wipe down kitchen and bathroom cupboards, wash all bedding, even wipe the walls and baseboards.  You'll be surprised how much more you like your house when it's clean!

Paint the walls or a piece of furniture

Paint is a super inexpensive way to breath new life into your home.  For less than $30, you can buy a gallon of paint to give a room in your home a whole new look.  You can also buy samples of paint for a few dollars and repaint a cupboard, wooden chair or table.

Add pillows or make new pillow covers

Pillows are a great way to add pattern and color to a room without a commitment and most importantly, without much $$.  New throw pillows can update chairs and sofas.  You can make new covers with less than 2 yards of fabric and some straight stitching.  (easy sew pillow cover tutorial here)

You can also buy cute napkins, sew the edges together (or press with seam tape)  and stuff them.  Easy, cute and inexpensive throw pillows!

Add some fresh flowers or greenery

Bring flowers/stems in from the garden or buy an inexpensive bouquet from the grocery store.  Fresh florals and stems can brighten up and add life to a drab room.  See more info on farmhouse table centerpiece here.

Rearrange furniture and decor

This is my favorite FREE way to change my house!  I love moving furniture and decor to create a whole new look.  I recently moved my media center over just a bit and added another set of picture ledge shelves to the right side.  It cost around $8 for the shelves and changed the look of the room.  I am thrilled with the result!

Buy an inexpensive piece of decor

Buy a new decor piece when it's on sale or use your 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.  Both stores have amazing art and home decor pieces.  This sign cost less than $15 on sale at Hobby Lobby.

Paint or repaint a sign or art piece

The chalkboard, 5 FIVE and Living our Best Life signs are wood that was previously other colors and sayings.  I just painted over them with craft paint then used a paint pen to write on the five sign
and vinyl for the best life sign.

Make a wall gallery

Have photos printed at Walgreens, who has 50% off sales all the time, or at mpix.com, the photo lab I use.  Then gather them together into a wall collage.  I put this collage of photos of my husband and I on the wall in our bedroom.

You can also buy frames for very inexpensive at the thrift store and paint them.  Then frame photos or other art pieces.

Change out drawer pulls

Drawer pulls and knobs on cabinets and furniture are very easy to change out to give a new look.  They go on sale quite often.
