I had this sign (and it's twin sister) sitting in my stash for who knows how long.  I am in a major purging mood so it was almost going to be donated.  Then I had a spot in my home that needed some Halloween pizzazz.  So I grabbed the sign and got my creative juices flowing!

It had a bit of glitter and puff paint on the front so I sanded that down really quick.  See my cute assistant behind the sign.  She was very, very helpful as you can imagine a puppy would be.

Eat Drink and Be Scary free Printable

Since this sign is going in my kitchen, I made a printable that says Eat, Drink and Be Scary.  I printed it on white cardstock.  I think it would look really good on a light brown/cream cardstock as well.

To Download Eat Drink and Be Scary Free Printable:

  • Right click on the image above
  • Save it to your computer.
  • Print in whatever size you want (it's made as an 8x10) on cardstock.

After printing, flip the printable over and trace the sign shape onto the back.  Then cut it out.  You can also glue it on first, then cut around the sign with an exacto knife.  They both yield the same results.

The sign was about 1 inch longer than an 8.5" x 11" paper.  So I glued a black and white piece of patterned paper to the top of the sign.  Then I glued the printable to the sign.  I like Tombo Mono Multi liquid glue because its formulated to help paper lay flat.  It doesn't make the paper bubble like some liquid glues can.

Halloween Sign - Distress edges of sign with ink pad

Once the paper was glued on, I distressed the edges of the sign with a black ink pad.  I did this by rubbing the edge of the sign gently with the ink pad.  It gives it a tiny bit of dimension that looks distressed.

I grabbed some orange ribbon, black buffalo check ribbon and a scrap of lace and tied them onto the twine at the top of the sign.

This was such an easy sign to make.  I am super excited to hang it from my DIY Dowel Peg Rack in my kitchen.

So at the end of the day, keep hoarding all of the things because you never know when you'll use them.  Just Kidding.  If anything, I think I'll try to be more selective about what I purchase and bring home.

But if you just happen to have a dollar store sign you aren't using, it's super easy to make a Halloween Sign from a Free Printable.
