I wasn't going to decorate my porch this year.  I really wasn't.  But then I saw my neighbors house decorated and had FOMO (fear of missing out).  So I picked up some pumpkins at the grocery store and decided to go for it!

Halloween Porch - pumpkins, mums, vintage ladder, Adirondack chair

How to decorate a porch for Halloween

When decorating your porch, it's important to prioritize what you want to decorate with.  I always start with the most important things first. And a then decorate around them.  I knew I wanted my front window to be the focal point because that is where we traditionally hang our bats.

Halloween Porch - blow mold pumpkin, adirondack chairs

My dad made these chairs that I proudly display on my front porch. I wanted to build a branch spooky forest around them.  I seem to have a thing for branches in my Halloween decor this year with the table centerpiece and witches brooms

To keep the branches upright, I zip tied them to the legs of the chairs, then added a little spanish moss  here and there on the branches.  Between the chairs, I used our vintage inspired blow mold pumpkin, on a grapevine wreath, on top of the stool from our chair set.

Halloween porch with orange lights at night

My favorite is when it's all lit up at night.  The orange strand of lights in the window cast a warm glow to the entire porch.

The pillows covers are made from Halloween bandanas that are just tied together on all 4 corners. Can you see the cute puppy in the window?  She hates when I go anywhere without her.

Halloween Porch - mums in buckets on vintage ladder

I used our vintage ladder in it's usual place near our front door.  I placed mums in vintage galvanized buckets that are hanging on the ladder with S hooks.

I stuck a few branches in the buckets along with some spanish moss and a few plastic spiders.  The yellow mum was really bright yellow so I hit it with a little bit of orange spray paint.

Halloween porch - halloween wooden sign

How to Make a Wooden Halloween Welcome Sign  To fill in an empty spot on the ladder, I whipped up a super easy wooden sign.  To make it:
  • I grabbed a piece of wood from my garage stash that was already painted black.  (Sometimes it pays to be a hoarder of reclaimed wood.)
  • I applied a vinyl decal cut with my silhouette.
  • I painted 3 coats of orange craft paint over the top and removed the vinyl after it dried.
  • I distressed the sign with sandpaper.
  • To weatherproof the sign, I gave it a coat of matte finish.

Since my kids are grown up and not interested in going to the pumpkin patch, I grabbed some pumpkins at the grocery store.  I always go for the ones that look a little different and have a long stem.

Halloween Porch - white halloween decal on black front door

I placed a wreath that I've had forever on our front door.  I tied it with wide ribbons to give it some flair.  I cut a Halloween decal from the silhouette store in removeable white vinyl and placed in on my front door.
