I love simple DIY projects that take everyday items and turn them into something both cute and useful. One of my recent favorites is making a magnet board out of a cookie sheet! It’s an affordable and fun way to get organized while adding a little charm to your home.

How to Make a DIY Magnet Board

This is a super easy project.  We made these as a project with out young women group and it went really well!

Supplies and Instructions for making DIY Magnet Board

Dollar Store cookie sheet.

  • A metal cookie sheet (make sure it’s magnetic!)  I used cookie sheets from the dollar store.  I took a little magnet into the store with me to make sure they would be magnetic.

  • Spray paint or craft paint (your choice of color)  I used 2 coats of black chalk paint.  Let dry very well in between each coat.  The edges and handles are the only parts that need to be painted.

Use mod podge to attach patterned paper to cookie sheet.

  • Decorative paper, fabric, wrapping or contact paper When we made these with our YW, we used wrapping paper in bright colors and patterns.

  • Mod Podge or spray adhesive  I used white with black polka dot patterned paper attached with mod podge.

  • Magnets (store-bought or handmade) I used large letter magnets and circle magnets.

  • Ribbon, rope, or command strips for hanging  I used these adhesive hooks.

That’s it—so simple! A cookie sheet magnet board works perfectly in a kitchen, home office, craft room, or even a kid’s space. You can personalize it with seasonal paper or swap out the magnets to match your decor.

This project cost just a few dollars, and it was easy enough that we finished it in one hour at our midweek youth activities. These DIY Magnet Boards would be great in any bedroom, an office or any place else you'd like a message board.
