What to Pack for Girls Camp

Wondering what to pack for LDS Girls Camp? Whether you're a first-year camper, or a seasoned veteran that goes each year, having the right gear can make camp more enjoyable and less stressful.

In this guide, you'll find things a little bit different than the basics you've packed for years.  These items are tried and true to help you thrive not just survive being at Girls Camp.

Packing for Girls Camp.

I just got back from a week at Girls Camp!  I added it up and I've gone 7 times in the last 10 years.  That's a lot!  I'm practically an expert, just kidding. This year was the last time I'll be going for a while but I feel like it was a really good year to end on!

This is a rough picture of me, but it's a pretty good example of what I felt like at camp.  It was hot.  It was chaotic.  It was busy.  There were lots of bugs.  There were lots of people.  There was lots of noise.  There weren't enough bathrooms.  There wasn't near enough sleep.  One thing that helps with all of that is taking the right things!

Somehow we managed to squeeze all 170 of us women/girls into 2 bathhouses.  I'm not sure how that works- I swear it's a loaves and fishes type miracle.

Toiletries bag for LDS Girls Camp.

First, one of the best things that made showering a little bit easier was this toiletry bag.  I was able to fit all of my hygiene items into it and take it right into the shower with me.  I kept all of my showering essentials (like this little razor) in the bottom pouch.

It folds in half and zips up to be compact for carrying and storage.  I was super happy hauling this toiletry bag around and it did everything I needed it to do!

Quick dry towel for girls camp.

The very best thing I took with me to camp was a quick dry towel (similar to this one).  In tight quarters like the full bunk house I slept in means that towels have a tendency to stay wet.  This towel solves all of that!  I cannot recommend a quick dry towel enough!!

Shoes to wear at LDS Girls Camp.

Another very important thing at Girls Camp is footwear.  I cannot handle shoes and socks when it's hot so I'm always looking for a sandal of some sort. These shoes were perfect!  They are a sandal that can get wet, protects ones toes and were comfortable.  I put a lot of steps on these in the week of camp.  I was able to throw them in the washer when I got home and they are looking and smelling just fine!!

Rechargeable telescoping fan for girls camp.

Did I mention it was hot at Girls Camp?  Because it was very hot.  And since it rained almost every day it was also very humid.  Thankfully our cabins and mess hall had air conditioning, but it was still SOOOOO hot!  This rechargeable fan came in so handy.  (similar here)  It has multiple speeds, oscillates and telescopes up to be about the same height as me.

Battery charger for cell phone at girls camp.

I ended up sleeping on the top bunk of our set of beds without a plug near by.  My portable charger saved my bacon to help me charge my phone at night.  (Mine is an older version of this one)  I made sure the power bank was fully charged before going to camp.  It charged my phone every night and I only had to recharge the battery once.  I love this thing!

Other great  items to take to camp

  • Changing Tent  We lacked privacy for changing in our cabins.  This changing tent came in SO handy for all of us!
  • Fanny Pack  I usually carry a backpack but this year decided to take a fanny pack for a test drive.  I kept my gum, chapstick, bug spray, small flashlight and hand sanitizer in this bag.
  • Small rug  This was also a new thing for me this year.  The cabins we stayed in were cement floor cabins.  They are dirty and gross.  Having a nice rug to stand on while changing clothes was so nice!
  • Shower shoes  I would not even consider stepping into a shower without shower shoes.  I used my old crocs, but wish I'd had some like these.
  • Plastic Totes  For the past several years I have taken all of my clothing and other items to camp in plastic totes.  They keep my clothes clean and easy to find.  Plastic totes are also perfect for keeping snacks safe from bugs.
