My daughter is a huge reader and has books
all over the place.
She needed some bookends.

I made the most simple book ends ever.
I'll show you how I did it.

I had a reclaimed 1 x 4 in my garage.
I cut it down to 5 inch lengths.

I drilled pilot holes in one end.
Pilot holes prevent the wood from splitting
 when it's screwed together.

I smeared a bunch of *wood glue
onto the ends of the wood pieces.

Then using screws, I attached the wood pieces together.

I painted each of the book ends black
then distressed the edges.

My daughter has speakers that light up
with the music played.
They are super fun and get used all the time.

The DIY Book Ends make perfect speaker holders.

The Book Ends hold her books upright
and make a platform for her speakers.

  1. That's such a great idea, especially to put the speakers on there like that too!

  3. What an easy and effective DIY! You could even get your teen involved in helping with the project! Love the way it brings a little more order to the top of the dresser!

  4. Great idea! I wish I could handle a saw and drill without injuring myself. I'll save the book end project for my husband. He's good at that. Those speakers are really nice. I'll have to look into those.
