My kids have already said they were bored at least 10 times a day for the past 2 weeks that they've been on Summer break. Our default seems to be to grab some sort of electronic device and before I know it, the entire day has been spent on You Tube and the Xbox.
I'm sure you can relate! We mamas need some fun and simple activities in her back pocket for when those bored times happen. Check out these Five Super Fun Summer Activity Ideas for Kids and Teens that would also work for any teen group including girls camp.
Summer Fun Activities
These activities require just a few supplies that you probably already have on hand.
Balloon Powered Matchbox car races
Chalk Messages
Marshmallow Structures
Nature Words
Paper Praises
Matchbox car races with Balloon power
Supplies needed
matchbox cars (dollar store cars work great!)
latex balloons
straws
scotch tape
washi tape or rubber bands
Instructions for making:
- Tape a balloon to the end of a straw with scotch tape, tight enough that air can't escape around the straw.
- Attach that to the top of a matchbox car with either washi tape or a rubber band.
To use:
Blog up the balloon with the straw. After it's blown up, place finger on the end of the straw to keep the air in the balloon.
Place car on a smooth surface and let go of the straw to let the air out of the balloon. The car moves wildly as the balloon deflates.
Chalk compliments
The only supply needed for this is sidewalk chalk.
Using colorful chalk, draw pictures and write compliments about each member of your family on the sidewalk or driveway. This is an especially good idea if everyone is struggling to get along!!
It would also be fun to sneak to a friend's house and write nice things on their sidewalk or driveway.
What a great surprise for them when they come outside!
Marshmallow Structures
Supplies needed
mini marshmallows
toothpicks
Instructions
Poke the toothpicks into the marshmallows. Connect several together to build structures of all shapes and sizes.
Nature Words
Go for a walk out in nature- at a park, at the lake or even in your yard.
Gather various pieces of grasses, leaves, flowers, stalks and twigs.
Using glue or tape, place the clippings onto cardstock to spell words. Everyone could write their own names or whatever word is meaningful to them.
Paper Praises
Supplies needed
roll of wrapper paper or poster board
washi tape to hang the paper
markers
Instructions
- Tape a piece of paper up on the wall with washi tape for each person in the group.
- Write each person's name at the top of one of the papers.
- Give each person in the group or family a marker.
- Everyone walks around the room to all of the papers to write compliments and praises on each person's paper.
- After everyone has written on every paper, take photos of each person in front of the paper with their names on it!
(Make sure the marker doesn't bleed through the paper)
