I am just getting warmed up on Christmas projects and it's so much fun!  So stick around for tons more Christmas cheer!

The other day I was cleaning my garage and came across a bunch of scrap wood leftover from other projects.  Since it's the holidays, I decided to make Christmas signs from the wood.

How to Make Farmhouse Christmas Signs with Scrap Wood

Scrap wood used to make Christmas signs.

As I said above, I shopped my garage and found a pile of scrap wood.  It was all left over from various projects.  Some of the wood has holes and other imperfections, which makes it perfect for making Farmhouse Wooden Signs.

Paint scrap wood base color of black chalk paint.

Sand the scrap wood to smooth it.  Wipe off the saw dust with a cloth.  Brush a coat of black paint onto the front of the wood.  I don't worry about putting the base coat on the sides since this is just the under coat and it will be covered by the top coat of paint.

Measure the wood so you know how big to cut the vinyl words.  Using the design software, make Christmas sayings and cut them out of removeable vinyl.

Weed vinyl with vinyl weeding tool.

Use the weeding tool to remove the insides of the letters and the outside, leaving just the vinyl words.

Smooth transfer tape over the vinyl words and transfer the words to the wood.  Run the scraper across the vinyl words to get them to stick to the wood.  Go over them several times, as needed.

Use vinyl as a stencil and paint over the top.

Paint over the words and the top of the wood including the sides.  Let the paint dry.

peel vinyl letters off with weeding tool

This is the best part-  Using the weeding tool, carefully peel off the vinyl.  It reveals the black paint underneath the white paint, and is incredibly satisfying!

Distress wooden sign with hand sander.

Distress the signs with an electric sander.  Go over the edges to get to the black paint and even the wood underneath.  You can also use the sander to clean up any paint on the back of the sign.
