When I considered how to decorate for Christmas in our dining room, I decided to go with a Gingerbread house theme. I have used gingerbread here and there in my kitchen, but decided to decorate the entire room this year.
Gingerbread Themed Dining Room
Our kitchen and dining room are still quite messy from our renovation. We still need to replace the sink, the molding and the flooring. But I put all of that aside for the holiday season and decided to decorate and celebrate anyway.
This large wooden cubby (and it's twin in one of my antique booths) is one of my favorite Facebook Marketplace finds. I placed it in my dining room and it's now the perfect place to decorate with gingerbread houses and men for Christmas. I gathered snowflakes, houses, gingerbread men and combined them with my every day decor.
I found super cute houses at Target. I grabbed white glitter, gold glitter and gold flat. I decided to spray paint the gold flat one brown to coordinate better with my decor. The houses are tall and fit the cubbies perfectly! They would also look really cute with lights or (battery operated) votive candles behind them.
I found this darling printable on Etsy and placed it in a frame. That is one of my most favorite ways to find art. Purchase a digital file, print it on my home computer and frame it. Easy Peasy!
I found a darling ceramic gingerbread snowflake at a local store (similar here). I stacked it on ironstone saucers. In the back, I filled a jar with dried orange slices.
In one of the cubbies, I placed my milk glass vase collection. For holiday decorations I filled them with candy canes.
In another cubby, I stacked a wooden snowflake (similar here) on a small white stand. Behind that I stacked a gingerbread tin (similar here) on another stack of plates.
I found a bare ceramic gingerbread house at another local store (similar here). One afternoon I put on some Christmas music and painted my cute little gingerbread house. It was such a peaceful activity and I love looking at the house to remember that time when life gets crazy!
I painted a dollar store house several years ago. The base coat is brown and then I painted white paint on the details before dusting the wet paint with glitter. I stacked this house on ironstone plates as well.
I placed a jar of vintage ornaments on top of the cubby. I also placed jars of wooden rolling pins and kitchen tools. I placed a strand of globe lights and accented it with greenery.
I love the look of everything all together on these cubbies. The cubbies are a little rustic and filling them with white dishes and various other items makes a beautiful eclectic look!
I like to keep the other view of the table very simple because of the business of the cubbies. I placed fresh greenery on the light fixture and then a little more greenery on the tray centerpiece.
