The kitchen might not be a place you'd normally decorate for Christmas because it's such a busy area of the house. But a few little touches don't get in the way of the functionality.
Christmas Decor in the Kitchen
Like my dining room, I wasn't going to do too much decorating in my kitchen this year because we are in the middle of a remodel. But, I just had to. I am ignoring the unfinished flooring and the sink side of the kitchen that are not finished yet to concentrate on the side that has been done.
I will be doing a blog post about all of this but so far I ripped out the pantry that used to be where the black cabinet is now. I added the cabinet underneath and took the countertop all the way to the wall. I had new appliances installed, painted the existing cabinets and changed out the hardware. I am SO HAPPY with the color, the appliances and the amount of counterspace we have now. Once I get the other side of the kitchen done, I will be doing a back splash and adding boxes to the top of the hanging cabinets. I also hope to find an antique wood glass front cabinet with beautiful patina in just the right measurements to fit where the current black cabinet is.
This is the spot that used to be the pantry. Now it's a beautiful space to decorate. For Christmas I did a candy cane theme along with a hot chocolate bar.
While I don't love to eat candy canes that much, I love the red and white look of them. I put a bunch of mints and mini candy canes into flip top glass jars. I found the darling candy cane glasses at a local antique store. I placed my son's favorite chocolate balls in an apothecary jar. I found the candy cane lane sign at a local store but this one is similar.
I made a hot chocolate bar on one of the shelves. I filled vintage Libby Santa jars with hot chocolate mix, and mini marshmallows.
How to Make Hot Chocolate Art
I found the most darling printable that I printed on my home printer and attached to an old wooden sign. There was a gap so I covered the edges with ribbon.
I found these hanging mug holders to hold our mugs. I love them so much because they use space on the shelves that otherwise might not be used and they are removeable after hot chocolate season is over.
I keep an electric tea kettle on the counter next to the shelf. I placed it on a little cake stand made by turning and bowl upside down and gluing a place to the bottom.
The top shelf holds a apothecary jar of vintage candy cane ornaments, a vintage wooden candy cane and cake stands. The bottom shelf holds an ironstone bowl of bananas, another cute framed printable, a painted candy cane house and a cookie jar (that is currently holding candy).
Above the kitchen cabinets I places jars of vintage metal cookie cutters, vintage bowls of Christmas ornaments and some greenery.
On our peg rack where I hang my cutting board collection, I placed a few cookie cutters on the pegs.
I still love our open shelving and I will for sure be keeping it when I finish this side of the kitchen.
I like to trade out our every day dishes with holiday dishes. Even my husband loves to use the festive plates that we've collected over the years! This isn't super aesthetic, but it works for our family.
I hung a wreath made like this above the kitchen sink. This place is impossible to take a decent picture of because of the sun shining in.
And last but not least in our Christmas Kitchen tour, I placed a faux tree in a vintage tin above our fridge hanging out with my vintage cookbook collection. You can also see my Come Follow Me scripture study printable and our perpetual calendar.
I hope you've enjoyed this kitchen tour. Merry Christmas!
