Do you follow any fashion influencers? Every time I scroll, I find one of the clothing peeps tempting me with a a new outfit that I am dying to own! We all believe that buying that new pair of shoes or top will make everything better, right? Some of my favorites are @betterwithchardonnay @merricksart @thatjuliegirl @mandie.mauldin are some of my favorites. The issue I run into is that I am easily influenced and want to buy all the things that they show.
While diving into the latest fashion trends can be thrilling, the cost can give a girl pause. The solution I have found to that is ...thrifting! Thrifting offers a budget-friendly solution to wanting to buy and try all the things.
How to Use Thrifting to Explore Your Fashion Style
Lately while I have been scrolling, I have been keeping track of the pieces I would like to buy and then do my best to find it at the thrift store. For example- in this post, Stephanie paired an oversized button up with olive pants. So I added both of those items to the notes app on my phone.
In another post, Mandie cropped an oversized Tshirt. So I added oversized T to my shopping list.
I took my shopping list to the thrift store and found some things that are similar to what my fashion besties are wearing. Let me show you some of the clothing pieces I have found while thrifting lately.
Button Downs
A nice button down is a staple in just about any closet. But an updated way to wear a button down is to get an oversized one.
I found a white button up (which is Lucky brand) in the ladies section and the blue and white one (which is Nordstrom brand) in the men's section. Each shirt was less than $7 each. Retail price would have been at least $30 each.
Please excuse my modeling. It's super awkward being in front of the camera. With both of these shirts, I wore a white tank underneath, jeans with a raw hem and sneakers.
Patterned (Non Denim) Bottoms
I wear denim a lot! Like almost every day a lot. So after being inspired by my favorite influencers, I decided to find some bottoms that were not denim.
I found a pair of leopard print, a pair of plaid and the olive cropped pants. A little tip is to look outside your normal size. For bottoms, I usually look in the medium section. But I found all of these pants in the large section and they all fit (a little baggie and oversized) perfectly.
I paired the leopard/cheetah print pants with a black v neck t-shirt. A little tip: each season I purchase inexpensive new t-shirts in the basics of black and white so I always have one available to wear with any other piece.
With the plaid pants I wore a basic white t-shirt. When I wore this outfit out, I put on a denim jacket and white sneakers.
With the olive pants, they are pretty much neutral so just about any top would coordinate. I chose to wear a black and white cropped T. If I were wearing this one out of the house, I would wear a denim jacket, a black sweater or a chunky cream sweater. For shoes I would wear sneakers, black chelsea boots or suede clogs.
Graphic T shirts
Graphic T shirts are such a fun way to express yourself. I especially like getting them at the thrift store because they are usually well worn and very inexpensive.
I found this leopard print horse riding Tshirt for less than $3 at the thrift store. I paired it with a camel colored long sweater and jeans. I would probably wear brown chelsea boots or clogs as shoes.
I was going to get an oversized band T and cut it down, but I found this one at the thrift store that was already cropped and distressed.
I wore a black tank underneath the cropped T shirt and denim pants. I would probably wear sneakers or black chelsea boots as shoes. If needed, I would wear a black sweater.
Oversized Blazer
Oversized blazers are readily available at the thrift store. If you want an oversized blazer and find a vintage one, you will need to size up several sizes.
You can find blazers in the women's section or the men's section and they are usually less than $10.
I wore this oversized blazer with the sleeves rolled up. Underneath the blazer I wore a white T shirt with jeans. Outside the house I would wear black chelsea boots.
