At this time of year, it's the perfect time to set a new scripture study goal. If you need a little help, this Come Follow Me Study Sheet Printable for Introduction to the Old Testament is perfect for you!
Happy New Year and welcome to the first week of the year! This is the perfect time to set new scripture study goals and get ready to study a new book of scripture, which this year is the Old Testament. And I know Come Follow Me can help.
What is Come Follow Me?
Several years ago, the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints made an inspired change to how gospel doctrine is taught by shifting the focus of learning to be in the home instead of at church. We use a Home Centered, Church Supported program called Come Follow Me.
Come Follow Me is for anyone who wants to learn from the scriptures—individually, as a family, and in Church classes. If you haven’t studied the scriptures regularly in the past, this resource can help you get started. If you already have a good habit of scripture study, this resource can help you have more meaningful experiences.
I think it shows how much faith God has in each of us to be responsible for our own gospel learning. We have been given tools that can give us daily opportunities to learn and to feel the spirit.
Why Use a Study Sheet?
I have been making Come Follow Me printables for over 4 years. Those printables had information taken directly from the Come Follow Me manual. This year, I decided to make the printable differently, more like a study sheet. This invites more than just reading, it invites writing things down and studying. Whether you study alone, with family, or in a class, this succinct page with references and questions can help you:
Remember key scriptures and themes
Record impressions or promptings
Track questions or thoughts to revisit later
Keep a personal record of your spiritual growth
Come Follow Me Old Testament
In 2026 we are studying the Old Testament in the Bible. I know we studied this 4 years ago, but the more we learn, the more we remember!
The manual states, In the Come Follow Me manual it tells us that when prophets of old spoke to their people they used the Old Testament.
And when Jesus Christ told the leaders of the Jews to “search the scriptures,” explaining that they “testify of me” (John 5:39), the scriptures He was talking about are the writings we call the Old Testament. In other words, when you read the Old Testament, you’re reading words that have inspired, comforted, and encouraged people of God for literally thousands of years. But can something that was written so long ago really help you find solutions to today’s problems? Yes, it can! Especially if you remember who the Old Testament is truly about.
Whatever challenges you and your family might be facing, the answer is always Jesus Christ. So to find answers in the Old Testament, look for Him. It won’t always be easy. You may need to ponder patiently and seek spiritual guidance. Sometimes the references to Him seem very direct, as in Isaiah’s declaration, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: … and his name shall be called … The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). In other places, the Savior is represented more subtly, through symbols and similarities—for example, through the descriptions of animal sacrifices or the account of Joseph forgiving his brothers and saving them from
