It's only February, but I'm starting to get excited for Spring! And today it's over 70 degrees in TN! Because of the awesome weather, I've been adding some spring touches to my home, starting with this Vintage Chicken Feeder Succulent Holder. updated 3-2020
Winters in TN usually aren't so bad. We usually get a little bit of snow, get out of school for a few days and move on. This year, we've hardly had any snow, but we've had SO MUCH RAIN! The dreary days have made me look forward to sunshiney days and SPRING!
How to use a Chicken Feeder to hold succulents
Give me all the plants, mixed in with the rustic charm that I love!
Gather Supplies
- vintage chicken feeder
- faux succulent picks
- terra cotta pots
- greenery stems
- faux potted succulents
- twinkle lights
This chicken feeder is so endearing because it has wooden legs added to it! Can't you just picture a farmer building legs for the feeder so his chickens can reach their food. Adorable!
Instructions for filling Vintage Chicken Feeder with Succulents
The pots needed a little bit of filling inside the pots, so I used a really technical, hard to find medium ... grocery sacks! :) I'm all about using things I have!
The sacks hold the faux succulent picks really well! You can just slide them inside the folds of the grocery sack.
Lay the longer stems at the bottom of the feeder. There's no need to cut the bottoms off if they fit in the feeder. Let some of the greenery trail out of the feeder as well.
After the bottom greenery is laid, you can tuck the potted succulents inside the feeder. Just move the stems out of the way, tuck the pot inside, and rearrange the stems.
After I arranged the plants the way I wanted them, I added a strand of battery operated, remote controlled twinkle lights.
Remote controlled twinkle lights are the best!
I love the sparkle they add to the succulents!
