For most of my life, I have kept a journal.  Some days (and years) in the past, I hardly wrote anything as I got busy with life.  But I always eventually went back to my pen and paper.  I am an emotion filled person and find that I am able to keep up with my thoughts and feelings when I write them down. Getting the chaos words out of my head and onto paper, clears up mental space!  I also love the idea of keeping my personal history to pass onto my posterity, through the written word!

Journaling for moms - why you should journal as a part of your self care

At the beginning of this year, I set big goals for my self improvement.  One of those goals was to improve my mindset.  And wouldn't you know, the habit of writing my words every day contributes to the success of my mindset.  I have found that intentionally journaling every day has helped me to have clearer focus, it reminds me of my goals and what's important to me, and helps me better deal with the BIG emotions that course through my mind and body!

I know what you're thinking - you don't have time to shower or drink your morning Diet Coke while it's still cold, let alone write a "Dear Diary" entry with people you hate and boys you think are cute!  

Journaling For Moms is less about salty remarks and puppy love proclamations and more about self care!  As a mom you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.  Fulfillment is so important and will make you a better mom!  When you get in touch with yourself - with your thoughts, your goals, and your dreams you can maximize your time to squeeze the most joy out of life.  

First of all - gather a pen and paper and find a quiet place.

As a mom, quiet time is in short supply.  You are probably going to have to sacrifice a tiny bit of sleep.  Start by getting up just 10 minutes earlier than normal.  Your house will be quiet, you can find a peaceful place to sit down and get in touch with yourself.  

I am NOT a morning person at all.  But I have found that by getting up 15 minutes before my kids makes all the difference.  I go downstairs, grab some water, light a candle and write in my journal.  I start the day calm and with a purpose.  Getting up early to journal has made all of the difference and I am not any more tired than I was before!

Journaling has become a part of my morning routine.  When I journal in the morning, I start the day mindfully and that helps me to craft the day I want!   I keep a copy of these free printable journaling prompts for moms in my journal and answer the questions.  

I have found that my favorite books to write in are spiral bound, like this and this or even a regular notebook, because they lay flat.  I also like to use good pens to write with, like Sharpie pens, Staedtler fine liner and good old Bic.
