Last year when I planned my son's graduation party, I considered many details and stressed over them for months.  I figured I would do the same for my daughter's graduation this year.  And then the big, unplanned situation hit the world, and threw all plans out the window - including graduations.  We've waited patiently for months to see when my daughter's high school gradation would be, and now that we have a date, it's time to start planning the party.

Make Graduation Decorations that are Easy and Inexpensive

With everything that is going on in the world and in our family, the last thing I wanted to do is spend lots of time and money on a party.  But I still wanted to make it special.  I put my crafting skills to use and came up with some cute and stylish decor pieces that are done on a budget.

Cardstock Flag Table Centerpieces

Colored Cardstock is so inexpensive, it's the perfect thing to use for party decor!  The first thing I made was Flags for Table Centerpieces.

  • Download and print flag templates.
  • Cut the template out, place it on the cardstock, trace and cut out flags.

  • Use a small paper punch to make holes on the side of the flag for the dowel.  You may have to punch 2 holes, side by side, for the dowel to fit.

  • Insert dowel into bottom hole

  • Carefully maneuver the flag so you can insert the dowel into the upper hole.

  • The small hole punch makes the holes small enough that the cardstock stays on the dowel without any adhesive.  But if needed, you could run a bead of glue on the back of the flag to hold it on the dowel.

With 2 pieces of 12 x 12 cardstock I was able to make 4 small yellow flags and 3 large purple flags.  Then I used the scraps for the circle garland.

Cardstock Circle Garland

Using paper scraps left over from making the flags and a little bit of twine, I was able to make a 8 foot circle garland.

  • Lay the circles on a flat surface.  Put 2 of the same color and size near one another in alternating colors.

  • Place a dollop of hot glue one side of the circles. You can do about 4 circles at a time before the glue dries.

  • Place the twine on top of the dot of glue, then push the 2nd circle on top of it.  Repeat until you have finished with all of the circles.
