Are you looking for a Back to School Dinner and Tablescape? Well, I've got you! Read on for some great ideas!
I have felt like time has been d r a g g i n g since Spring when we've all started staying at home. Until last week ... when I realized that school starts this week (tomorrow, in fact). School starting doesn't look like it usually does, since our family has one kid on a mission, one kid going to college and the other kid doing on-line learning. But that doesn't mean we can't celebrate this exciting time of year with our traditional Back to School Dinner.
Ideas for a Back to School Dinner
We've been having Back to School Dinners for several years now. I almost think our school year wouldn't start correctly without it.
Supplies Used for Back to School Table Decor
Most of these items are things that I keep from year to year. I also usually browse the Target Dollar Spot to get a few school related decor items.

I started by laying red striped wrapping paper down the center of my kitchen table. I love using wrapping paper as a table runner because it's SO cheap and it's disposable. It also comes in all sorts of colors and textures.
My daughter has always been fascinated by science, so of course she had a beginners microscope when she was younger. I kept it when she lost interest in it. I placed it into a footed wooden bowl, with fresh apples all around it.
I filled glass vases with wooden blocks. I placed flash cards on pics and made flags with the schools my kids will attend. Similar in this post. The vases are on top of stacks of vintage books. I also placed #2 pencils and rulers in mason jars.
To anchor each place setting, I used a wicker charger. Then I layered a white plate and placed a vintage, glass apple shaped plate on top. I love those apple plates that were given to me by my mother in law.
Each place setting also included a fun About Me sheet, a pencil, a napkin attached with a colorful paper clip and a fork.
I used glass water tumblers with a Hello My Name is: ______ name plate, tied on with red striped ribbon.
I found 2 vintage apple candy dishes that worked perfectly to hold mini M & M's.
M & M's are always a favorite at our house!
For our Back to School Dinner we had a waffle bar with fruit, powdered sugar and buttermilk syrup, eggs and bacon. It was the perfect thing and something everyone loves! Our Back to School Dinner tradition has always been a fun way to get ready for the new school year!
