Find out a cute way to spook up a Halloween Shelf.

When my son asked me to decorate the shelves in his room for Halloween, it gave me a fun challenge. It couldn't be too spooky because ain't nobody like that. But a 13 year old boy is certainly not going to like whimsical either. I think I settled right in the middle with this Halloween Shelfie!
What is a Halloween Shelfie you say? Well, it is a shelf or set of shelves decorated for Halloween My son has a chalkboard wall in his room with black brackets and wooden shelves. Nice and manly. So I needed to keep his décor manly too. And not too spooky. And not little kid'ish. It was a challenge but I was up for the task!
After placing purple Halloween lights around the shelves, I filled glass jars with plenty of Halloween curiosities- skulls and glow in the dark bats.
These glass jars are filled with the Halloween classics - spider rings and vampire teeth. I thought the collection of them made for a mad scientist look. I put brown shred in the bottom of the jars to fill them up.
I used a variety of skeletons and skulls. That had just the right amount of spookiness with out being down right scary! I also used creepy cloth. That stuff works so awesome to add Halloween ambiance.
I used poster putty to hold the inflexible and super light weight skeletons in place. Otherwise my son would wake up to a nightmare of a skeleton falling on him in the middle of the night.
As I said above, my son has a chalkboard wall so it's the perfect place to add some chalk art. I drew spiderwebs, bats and wrote a few messages. My son learned this Halloween poem in grade school and he requested it on his wall. It's the perfect accent and matches the skeletons and skulls perfectly!
