School is almost out for the summer. My son has worked really hard this year to finish out his middle school years (which were so weird because of the pandemic) on a high note. I thought it would be fun to put together a basket for him to celebrate the summer!
How to Put Together a Basket to Celebrate Summer
I've made baskets like this several times as my kids were growing up. When they were younger, I could get by with putting a few water toys and coloring books into a basket and calling it good. Now that my only child at home is a teen, he's not going to be too excited for either of those things. So I had to put my thinking cap on and come up with summer themed items that a teen boy would love!
Summer Ideas for a Teen Boy
I put the items into 3 different categories:
- summer clothing
- water fun
- treats
Summer Clothing: First we start with something almost every kid (and grown up for that matter) needs each year - a new swim suit. My son likes the shorter style swim trunks. I found these at Walmart but the above link will take you to similar trunks. Don't forget the sunglasses to protect their eyes from the summer sun!
A new beach towel and sunscreen are also good to have in the basket. These are SUPER important but disappear from year to year!
Water Fun: One of the best parts of summer is playing in the water. And if you don't have a pool like us, you have to get creative.
When my kids were younger, we used to buy kiddie pools and slip n slides every year. But now that the only child at home is a giant teenager, those items aren't as useful. So we will have fun with squirt guns and water balloons. I gave him 2 squirt guns so I can get in on the water action with him!
Treats: This is always my favorite part! Treats are perfect to add to a Summer Celebration basket. And the most eaten treat in the summer is popsicles since they are so tasty and help to keep ya cooled off! I especially like to get the frozen tube type popsicles, or Otter pops because they are super inexpensive and easy to store and freeze!
My kids have been HUGE slush fans their entire lives. So I was super excited to find these slush pouches to have at home. My son will be so excited to pull these out of the basket.
Candy is always a fan favorite in our house. I grabbed the classic cotton candy and then some sour gummies. My teen boy will love these! And I will try really hard not to steal them!
I placed all of the goods into a basket, along with a 500 piece puzzle to use on days when it's rainy or too hot to be outside. In the basket I also included a blank

Summer Bucket List Printable
I don't know about you, but summer kinda stresses me out. It's hard trying to figure out what to do with kids all day every day (especially when they were younger). To combat this, we have made a Summer Bucket List several times:

Now that my son is a teen, I worry about getting him away from his screens and spending quality, memory making time with him. So this year I am going to have him help me make our bucket list. I made a printable that we can fill in together.
I am excited to see what Summer 2022 has in store for us! I know this Summer Celebration Basket along with the Summer Bucket List Printable is going to come in so handy!
