You would be surprised by the amount of scrap wood I have in my garage. I could do daily projects using it for the next year and still probably have plenty left over. Every now and then I get the urge to put some of my stash to use and this is such a project.
Since it's Halloween, I also have the urge to craft all of the spooky things. So scrap wood + Halloween = scrap wood Haunted Houses.
How to Make Haunted Houses out of Scrap Wood
I had a bunch of pieces of 2 x 4's and 2 x 2's and used my miter saw to cut them down.
How to Make a Pitched Roof To cut to roof, measure the center of the 2 x 4 and mark it. Then draw a straight line a few inches down across the wood. Draw a line from the center down to each of the sides. Cut along the line with the miter saw.
Paint the houses with black chalk paint. Once the paint dries, distress with a mouse sander.
Accessorize Haunted Houses
You can use a variety of things to accessorize the haunted houses. I used book page paper from a dictionary, scraps of yard sticks, wood scraps for chimneys, a spider ring with the ring cut off and printables from here.
Use mod podge to apply book page paper to one of the houses and to the ruler scraps. To make windows, cut squares of book page paper and draw lines with a sharpie for window panes.
Grab a bunch of your girl friends or your kids and have a party while putting these together. You can find all of the details and instructions here. Scrap Wood Haunted Houses are a simple yet oh so cute decoration to add to your Halloween Décor.
