I love the change of seasons and fall is my absolute favorite time of year.  BUT it's still 1000 degrees here in TN and I just cannot get excited about pumpkins when it's still sweaty weather.  Pumpkins require hoodies, cozy blankets, boots and jeans not shorts and flip flops.  Anyway- even though it's not quite the season for it, I am ready for some subtle fall changes in my home decor.

Enter Mushrooms.

I don't know what the deal is with me and mushrooms this year, but I love them.  I must not be the only one because I have been seeing them everywhere.  And I am here for it!  Mushrooms are great for early fall decorating especially with warm tones and woods.

Early Fall Decorating in Cozy Cottage Style

A few days ago I was at Hobby Lobby to get supplies for a different project.  I was kind of annoyed by ALL OF THE PUMPKINS everywhere.  But before long I found myself wandering down the fall aisles.  And while I wasn't interested in the pumpkins quite yet, I found some super cute mushroom items.

As soon as I saw the mushrooms, I knew I wanted to add them to my early fall decorating.  I mean check out those wicker mushrooms . . . they are so stinking cute!  Get similar wicker mushrooms here.

I also found the mushroom art and got lucky enough to find it on sale.  BTW- I totally recommend shopping the sales at Hobby Lobby if you can!  The white shutters leaning against the wall make such a good back drop for layering.  I pounded a nail right into the shutters and hung the artwork.

Pothos in a vintage crock for early fall decorating.

I placed my pothos into a vintage crock.  I always keep my plants in plastic planting pots so I can move them into different decorative containers.  I usually put them in a plastic bag to catch any drips.

Vintage wooden tool box with vintage bottles.

I placed an old, vintage tool tote on it's side and placed several vintage found bottles in the cubbies.  Every time I'm at an estate sale or thrift store, I always keep my eyes open for little bottles.  They are so much fun to decorate with.

Wicker mushrooms on vintage green chair.

I placed the mushrooms on a vintage green children's chair.  I bought this chair at an auction and love the chippy paint and it's color.  It's so perfect for layering in displays like this!

White cupboard decorated for early fall.

Just over from the first display is this cupboard.  I added some early fall touches sprinkled in with the collections I love.

Cozy collections in early fall decorating.

I grabbed a bunch of clocks from my collection.  I also pick these up here and there when I find them.  I like to mix in the distressed/messy ones in with the crystal and shiny ones because I like the way they look together.

Clock and book collections displayed.

To make the display more dynamic, I layered the clocks in with books.  Vintage books look so good used as risers.  They have such a great patina.

Movie reels in glass vase.

Several month ago I found a bunch of movie/projector reels at the flea market.  I waited for just the right place to put them and this display is it.  I placed them in a large glass jar and put them in this cozy fall display.

Head vases with fall foilage.

In this spot, I added fall florals to my head vases and a cute little mushroom painting.  Oh and I can't forget to tell about the vintage children's cash register I found at the thrift store.  It looks perfect in this spot.  It's a little rustic and has touches of red.

Table Centerpiece with mushrooms.

The last spot that I added a little early fall decor is our kitchen table.  I placed a long skinny tray in the center of the table first.  I have no idea what the original purpose of the tray was because I found it at the thrift store and thought it looked perfect for a centerpiece.

I placed a candle one one end of the tray.  To elevate it a little, I put it in an old light fixture that has been repurposed into a candle holder.

I placed wooden mushrooms in the tray first.  Get something similar here.  As filler, I sprinkled in colorful velvet acorns that I found at the thrift store.

Lastly I placed an amber vase with some faux stems on the tray.  This little tray looks perfect on my kitchen table.  BTW- this is the same table that I striped and stained once darker and then again lighter.
