Here is an idea for a YW Camp Craft - I Am Word Collage.

As I have stated in previous posts, last month I had the opportunity to attend Girls Camp with my stake and my ward. I was on the stake camp committee as well as a chaperone of my ward YW since I also serve in our ward YW presidency.
That is a unique roll since I interact weekly with the YW in my ward but was also in charge of the planning of camp for the entire stake. One of the things I wish all young women understood is their identity as a child of God. No matter what the world tells them they are, they are His beautiful daughters who He loves perfectly. Since I was in charge of crafts I wanted a fun way to incorporate those ideas so I came up with the I Am Collage.
I Am Collage
If we don't help the young women know who they are, the world will try to. Due to social media and other sources they are constantly comparing themselves to others and being bombarded with messages that they are not enough. So I feel (and felt in planning) that I want to keep in the minds of these amazing girls everything that they ARE.
It helps that this project is very budget friendly as well. For this project you will need:
As you can probably tell, white cardstock is one of my staples. I keep a ream on hand at all times and use it for so many things. I bought a pack for camp and ended up using it for this craft as well as so many other things.
I typed "I AM" repeatedly in a word document and printed it on my beloved white cardstock. Then I punched them out using a circle punch. You could also just write I AM with a marker.
Does anyone even get magazines any more? I remember the days of waiting by the mailbox and pouring over the pages of my favorite mags. Now it's kind of a struggle to find them without breaking the bank. Lucky for me I'm a thrifter and found a bunch at the goodwill bins and the thrift store.
Some of the magazines had questionable articles and language. With those, I cut out the usable words and letters and provided them to be cut up and used. I also brought strips of patterned paper to use as rays on the collage.
The idea is that I AM is at the center of the paper and then the YW puts all of the things they are as rays out of the center. I encouraged them to think of their spiritual gifts and some of the traits they would like to work on. They could find descriptive words and images and/or spell out words with letters cut from the magazines. They could also write words in and labels around the edge as a border.
As with the Beaded Wind Chime and Think Celestial Stitchery, I made posters of the instructions so they could be self led while at camp. Unfortunately we had a huge freak rain storm that came out of no where during camp. The camp crafts were outside and some got ruined and we got drenched which was so funny! But this is a project that we will be doing again!
