It's the most wonderful time of the year! I hauled all of the Christmas totes out of my attic and I have been busily decking my halls and jingling all the way! I am almost done with all of it and am excited to share, starting with the living room.
Christmas in the Living Room
The Living Room is always where I start my Christmas decor because it's where our tree goes and where we, well, live! This is the room that gets used all day, every day. So I have to keep it family friendly, and dog friendly.
Red is my favorite color but I don't decorate my home with it much- except at Christmas time! I pulled out our bins of Christmas ornaments and used all of the same ones we've used for years.
- Large red balls Even though I have older kids now, I still love to use unbreakable ornaments because I am a klutz and break them too.
- Vintage silver balls I did use glass because they are vintage. If you can't find vintage at a thrift store or antique store, you can get these.
- Letter initials I made these a long time ago with the initials of everyone in our family. Luckily our daughter-in-laws name also starts with a C.
- Various picks: candy cane, red ball picks, white glitter picks, and red and green glitter ball picks
- Red and white pom pom garland
- Clip on star tree topper. I found mine at the thrift store but this is similar.
This year I jumped on the ribbon bandwagon and added a bunch. For the ribbon spirals, I wrapped wired ribbon around a large marker several times. Once the marker was covered, I slid it off and bent one of the ends over the Christmas branch. I used this velvet ribbon and tied bows to place on my tree as well.
I tucked the tree into the corner of our living room near a table and underneath our board and batton molding. I was able to put my Santa blow molds on the table and a few Santa signs on the molding. I also hung a Santa poster with this frame on our peg rack.
We had a pre lit Christmas tree for several years but I never liked the light placement and eventually the lights stopped working all together. So I bought an unlit Christmas tree and never looked back. I used about 10 strands of lights and this timer so that they come on automatically.
One the other side of the window from the Christmas tree is my Santa mug display. This year I collected several more and now all of my cubbies hold vintage mugs. I draped the top of the cabinet with garland and vintage red bell lights. While these don't work, I love the way they look displayed. And they remind me of the lights that my grandma used to have on her tree.
This little cubby, which is also a thrifted find is the perfect place to display my beloved collection. I love all of the different faces and the chippiness of these mugs!
Behind our couch is our fantle- our faux mantle. It's what I call the molding in the center of the wall where I displayed a collection of stars. Underneath the stars I strung garland with fairy lights and a few evergreen picks placed here and there to fill out the garland.
Over the years I have changed out our stockings several times. This year I had my family members choose which stockings they wanted to use. My husband and I are using the Coke ones that were the our first ones when we got married. My oldest son and his wife have matching ones as well. Then my daughter, youngest son and Lizzie the dog each got one.
On our white step back cupboard I placed all of my collected Santa figurines. I have been collecting these for years and love them all piled together on tins and plaid lunch boxes.
I found this large Santa mug/pitcher at Hobby Lobby. It is the 2024 addition to my collection. Oh and the tins. And the Santa scrabble letters.
At the bottom of the cupboard is my display of nativities. The little bears full nativity is the first one I collected many years ago from Home Interior. I have added the Mary, Joseph and Jesus figurines along with the beautiful nativity scene artwork.
Last but not least in this living room tour is our family favorite nativity- the Little People Nativity. We got it when our kids were little. When the angel is pushed down, it plays Away in a Manger. We all love to push it and make the music!
Thanks for joining me on the 2024 Tour of My Christmas Living Room. I'll be back with the outdoors, dining room and kitchen.
