How to Get Back on Track After Traveling or a Busy Season

You know that feeling when you finally unpack your backs (or maybe you don't - no judgement here!), look around your house, and realize everything feels a little ... off?  Between traveling, busy seasons and just plain life, it's easy to get thrown off your rhythm.  Whether your laundry pile is giving you the side eye or your creative projects are gathering dust, getting back on track doesn't have to be overwhelming.  So today we are going to talk about How to Get Back on Track After Traveling (or any busy season)

How to Get Life Back on Track after a busy season.

I have been crazy busier than normal the past few weeks.  I've been doing a lot of working, antique boothing, and quite a bit of traveling and  have been feeling SO overwhelmed.  We got home from our son's house in Arkansas late Sunday night and I just knew I needed to do a few things to get my life under control.

How to Get Back on Track when you've been Busy

Start with a Small Win

Get back on track by cleaning one spot and lighting a candle.

Instead of diving into a full-blown deep clean or tackling every email at once, pick one thing.  Unpack your suitcase.  Clear off the kitchen counter.  Make your bed.  A small win gives you instant progress and motivation to keep going.

Do a Brain Dump

Make a long to do list.

When you've been out of routine, your mind fills with all the things you "should" be doing.  Grab a notebook (or open the notes app on your phone- which is my favorite) and write down everything swirling around in your head - errands, ideas, goals and to-dos.  Getting it all out clears the mental clutter and helps you focus.

Prioritize

Figure out the most important things and prioritize getting those done.  Then you can fill in the less important tasks as you have the time and energy.  I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you will probably not be able to get it all done.  Don't beat yourself up!

Meal Plan and Order Groceries

Make a meal plan list for the week.

You and your family are always going to have to eat and if you're not careful, dinner time will sneak up on you.  If you haven't had a chance to order groceries (Go Grocery Delivery) or pick them up, its going to be hard to feed everyone!  One of my favorite hacks is to order grocery delivery on the way home from my trip so that they are already there or almost there waiting when we get home.  I cannot say enough good things how helpful it is to Meal Plan, I have been doing this for about 10 years and only wish I'd started earlier!

Reset Your Space

A tidy space can reset your mindset.  Light a candle, put on your favorite playlist, and give your home or workspace a quick refresh.  Even ten minutes of decluttering can make everything feel calmer and more manageable.

Reconnect with your Routines

Walk the dogs.

Think of the habits that make you feel your best - your morning Diet Coke ritual, daily walk, scripture reading or creative quiet time - and easy back into them.  Don't try to do everything at once.  Just start with the one or two routines that ground you.

Give Yourself Grace

Travel and busy seasons are part of a full, beautiful life.  So if things take a few days (or weeks) to settle, that's ok.  Progress, not perfection.  You're not behind - you're just finding your rhythm again.

These tips have really helped me this week as I try to get back on track after an extra busy season and hopefully they help you too!  Tag me if you use them and post about it!
