She's been crafting lots of stuff

I've been living up to my blog name lately, working on lots of crafty stuff.

Please excuse the cell phone pics- my beloved iphone is usually the only camera I carry these days.

Here are some of the projects I've been working on:

I've got a new hardware cabinet for my craft room...

which I love so very much!!!  It still has the marker written on it from the gentleman that had it before me.  Love!!!!  It has tons of space to store all kinds of things.  I've only filled up 1/2 of the drawers so far!!

With all the storage added outside my craft closet I was able to move my sewing machine back in.  It's really handy having it in here and not out in the open.  I'm hoping to move my fabric collection into the plastic storage carts under the machine at some point.  I've got lots more organizing to do before I do that though

At the flea market where I got the metal cabinet, I also found these old, metal sign letters.  I made a little art piece for my craft room.

We did some bed switcharooing.  My boys used to share a room with a bunk bed.  But now my oldest is too big to sleep on the top bunk and my youngest is still a bit too small.  So we moved the bunk bed into my daughter's room and let her use the bottom bunk as a futon for reading and watching movies.  It's perfect for her.  We got my sons new beds.  So I have lots of projects planned in here to get their room all set up, including drapes, bedding, headboards, lighting, etc.

I made an impromptu Instagram (do you follow me?  @shescraftycrafty)  display board.  I have tons of small square photos that I've taken with my phone.  I have the best of intentions to do a scrapbook or smashbook with them, but they were just sitting in a drawer.  So I made a display board to show them off.  My kids have loved looking at the photos!

I've also been having some fun doing some chalk art.

I also have a new (to us) kitchen table that I'm trying to get painted in time for our Thanksgiving dinner.

All of these projects I'll be posting about in upcoming posts!

Hope you all have a great  weekend!!

chevron chalkboard from thrift store frame

I'm am so not over the chalkboard trend.  I have so many chalkboards in my house and don't plan on stopping!  I love it so!  2 walls, 2 doors and 2 frames aren't quite enough.  So I did another one!  :)

This chevron chalkboard frame is the perfect place to jot a little Thanksgiving reminder!

Would you believe that this is how the frame started out?  Pink and black isn't my favorite color scheme to decorate with, but I loved how the white framed the inset back.  So I decided to see if I could make something else out of it.

I gave it a few coats of spray paint.  Unfortunately, I didn't sand first so the polka dots and flowers still showed through.

I'm the laziest crafter ever so rather then sand the frame properly and repaint it, I decided to find something to cover it up.  I remembered the cute chevron ribbon I scored at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago and thought maybe it could work.

I cut the edges of the ribbon on an angle so the ribbon looked mitered and glued it on with tacky glue (amazon affiliate link).

Then I cut down some chalkboard vinyl and applied it to the inside of the frame.  It worked perfectly to cover the designs that showed through the rotten paint job I gave it.  I also distressed the edges of the frame a bit.

A cute little chevron chalkboard to go next to an owl friend and bowl of pumpkins!!

Message Board to hide a phone jack

I just made a new message board for our kitchen.  And the best part of all, it does double duty!!

The main wall you see when you walk into our kitchen has a phone jack smack dab in the middle of it.

Lovely huh?   I accepted it as necessary for a while.  We used an old corded phone there as back up in case the power went out.  Well, we recently switched to digital service so if the power goes out (and our back up battery dies) our phone won't work at all.   So, I decided it was time to get rid of the old phone and put something decent on on that wall.

I had a mirror in my garage that we weren't using.  So I took the mirror out and painted the frame.

To accommodate the phone jack which sticks out from the wall, I built a box on the back of the frame with square dowels.  It makes the frame stand out about 3/4 of an inch or so.  It's enough that the frame can sit nicely on the wall and not look weird.

For the inside I wrapped the cardboard backing from the frame with wrapping paper that looks like newspaper.  I decided not to mod podge it on there, in case I decide to change the paper.  I strung black bakers twine  (amazon affiliate link) across the front and used packing tape to make sure everything was secure.   Then I hot glued the back to the frame.

I use mini clothes pins to tack up photos, reminders and my grocery list.

Now when you walk into my kitchen, you see a message board with some photos of some of my favorite people!!  I'm still working on a printable or quote to go here too.

But I'm happy to not see the ugly phone.  Woo hoo!!

About me

I am Candice.

I am a wife and mother to 3.

I am a crafter, photographer, scrapbooker, home decorator and wanna be DIY'er.

I have always loved creating.  My mom was an excellent example.  I grew up watching her sew, cook and make flower arrangements for others.  Often times I would snitch some of her unused flowers and/or fabric make things for my room.  My mom pretty much let me decorate the way I wanted and I loved having a space that was mine.  I would arrange and rearrange my furniture (even though it was super heavy) into the wee hours of the morning.  My parents never knew what my room would look like when they came to wake me up in the morning.   I also used images cut from magazines and my favorite teen idol posters as wall art, along with photographs of my family and friends.

As I have grown up many things have changed but a lot has stayed the same.  Now my husband never knows what the house will look like when he gets home from work.  Thank goodness he's a good sport, goes with the flow and pitches in to help me when he can.  I always have some project going and love to arrange and rearrange our home.  (And I still find a way to push our super heavy furniture around.)  Now rather then cutting images from magazines, I use the ideas in magazines as inspiration to create my own art and adornments.  And I still  LOVE photographs of loved ones and think they add personality and homey touches to our home.

I am so inspired by the world and people around me.  There are so many talented people who share their gifts with others, which I totally love!!  It's my hope that when you stop by my blog you leave at least a little bit inspired to create something lovely for your home.

As for how I named this blog- a long time ago someone I knew, whose decorating style was very different than mine, once commented that I was crafty.  I don't think she meant it in a nice way, but I decided to take it and run with it.  And everytime I say it, I totally sing the Beastie Boys song in my mind, "She's crafty and she's just my type!"

So now I like to say that
I'm a crafty girl who lives in a crafty world.
