Cork Board Makeover with buffalo check fabric

Have you come across an old cork board either at the thrift store, or in your attic - like me, and wondered how you could give it a makeover?  I recently beautified 2 old cork boards to make them go with my new craft room.  It was super easy to do this

My new craft room is coming along, one project at a time.  I've done a Pegboard to hold my crafting tools and figured out the 6 Essentials in a Craft Room.  Now I am working on my desk area and needed a freshly updated cork board.

I shopped my attic - the place has just about everything!  It's where I store all of my old projects, and things I no long use but think I will someday.  I found 2 almost identical cork boards, but they both needed a makeover.

Supplies Needed for Fabric Covered Cork Board

This is a very cost effective project.  I spent no money because I had everything on hand.  Once you purchase tools (see a post dedicated to my favorite crafting tools here) and supplies that you can use over and over, projects become easier and less expensive.

Instructions for Giving an old Cork Board a Makeover

Find a cork board, either new or previously loved to give a makeover.  Add cork tiles if the cork board is too thin.  Trim them down to size and hot glue them to the cork board.

Cover cork board with fabric.  I used about a yard for each of the cork boards I recovered.  Staple the fabric to the wooden frame, on the back of the cork board.

Once the fabric is secure, hot glue trim around the border of the cork board.

Repeat same process to recover matching cork board.

I hung one cork board above my computer and the matching one above my kids computer.  For right now we are sharing a desk.

Still to come in my craft area makeover - window treatments (more than just my lighted fabric banner) and finish up my craft closet.  It's almost done now.  I can see the light!

Doing a Cork Board Makeover is an easy way to update any cork board for an office space!
