Fall is the best time of the year! After a long hot summer, I always welcome fall. It is the time when school starts, the temperature and humidity finally drop, and we get pumpkins and mums! Well, 2 out of the 3 have occurred and I'm eagerly awaiting the day I can walk outside without immediately breaking into a sweat.
Anyway - I'm also super pumped about fall crafting. The first project I did was to make some cute Fall Wood Signs for my kitchen that are an easy DIY.
How to make Wooden Signs for Fall
When I was redoing my craft space, I purged a ton of supplies that I no longer use. I had tons of random wooden pieces that almost went to the donation pile, but luckily I saved a few, because they were the perfect thing to make these signs.
Supplies needed
- small wooden craft plaques
- large wooden craft plaque
- craft paint
- recipe book paper - I used paper from a vintage recipe book purchased at the thrift store
- matte mod podge
- black vinyl
- silhouette
Instructions
-Brush matte mod podge onto top surface of wooden plaque, then place recipe book paper onto it, smoothing with fingers. Let dry.
-Sand edges of wooden plaque to remove excess paper. Once that is done, sand the edges of the wooden plaque.
-Brush a light coat of mod podge over entire sign, including the painted edges, to seal the paper and the painted wood.
-While that is drying, find an image in the Silhouette Store to put on your sign, or make your own. I used the fonts on my computer to write Harvest Baking Company, Apple and Pumpkin. You can get the one I made here. I have never shared a silhouette file before, so let me know if that doesn't work.
-Cut words out of black vinyl, weed, and transfer to sign with transfer tape or clear contact paper.
-On the large sign, I dry brushed a tiny amount of brown and black craft paint to distress the edges a bit.
I hung my signs in my kitchen underneath my farmhouse shelves, near the cookie jar holding those bits of soft, chocolate pumpkin deliciousness! Speaking of cookie jars, looks like I need to cut some vinyl for this year's jar!
These signs are the perfect touch to add some Fall Farmhouse Charm to my kitchen.
