Once Christmas is over and all of the festiveness is put away, sometimes our homes can be a little bare and cold. It is also January which means the temperature is cold, even here in the south. At this very moment, we are in the middle of a giant snowstorm/freeze that is making doing anything outside the home just about impossible. Since we are stuck inside due to weather, it is so important to have a cozy and warm space.
I love home decorating and love having a cozy home, so have been working on adding more coziness around my house.
How to Add Cozy to Your Home
Have a Clean Up Routine The number one way I like to keep my home cozy is keeping a clean home which is made easier by having a clean up routine. This post has some good information to help you with that.
Pleasant Smells. Once your house is clean, you can then make sure that it smells good. I use all sorts of scent products. I love burning candles, using a wax melter with wax melts (my fave ones come from Walmart) and scent plug ins from Bath and Body Works.
Throw Pillows and Blankets. I love to keep throw pillows on my couch. Since I have leather couches, they can be a little bit cold. But adding pillows warms them up. I like to make different covers for my pillows with this tutorial.
I like to drape cute blankets over my couch, in addition to keeping a basket (similar here) of additional throw blankets handy.
I put several of my lamps on a timer so that they turn on automatically. These small timers are awesome and can be changed as the sun goes down later and later in the year.
I also left a few strands of twinkle lights around my house. I use these round globe lights above the cubby in my dining room and a small strand of white lights around my front window. White lights are never out of style or out of season!
Photos. A great way to add coziness is to display photos of people and things that are important to you. I do this in many areas in my home, but I am sharing just 2.
For my living room, I made simple photo ledge shelves on which I display an array of our family photos.
On the built ins in our dining room, I display a whole bunch of photos of our extended family. What can I say, I love being surrounded by my people in photos.
Cooking and Baking. The last thing I want to share to help make a cozy home is doing some cooking and baking. Nothing says cozy like a crockpot of mac and cheese and a cookie jar full (or not full) of chocolate chip cookies.
These are just a few Ideas to Add Coziness to Your Home.
