After taking down all of the red, white and blue in my house, sometimes things look a little sad. It's hard to know how to decorate your home for summer after July 4. I scoured the internet looking for inspiration and found this:
Emily @weatheredwaresandco is a genius when it comes to decorating with vintage things! I was totally inspired to make a tiered succulent display similar to hers.
Tiered Faux Succulent Display for Summer
Supplies Needed for succulent display
Gather your supplies. I used vintage cake pans and tins that I picked up along the way in my many thrift store adventures. If you don't have vintage, you can use dollar store cake pans that you can paint or distress in some way.
- vintage tins
- vintage cake pans
- small faux succulents (you can use real if you'd prefer)
- repurposed spindle candle sticks
- glass candle holders
- small glass vases
- dried billy ball flowers
- spanish moss
- wooden blocks
- poster putty
Start by layering the tallest pieces. I placed several faux succulents into vintage peanut tin. I placed the tin onto a glass candle stick to give it height. The tin is held onto the candlestick with poster putty.
Next I placed small glass vases (using white beans for vase filler) with billy balls, then wooden candle sticks to hold smaller succulents. For the smaller cake pan, I placed it on a wooden block for height.
After the display was full, I covered everything in spanish moss. It fills in and covers all of the blocks and gives the display a full look! I would have never thought of using it, if I hadn't seen Emily do it.
I placed the display onto the cabinet in my living room in front of a piece of blue beadboard from my stash. I feel like blue and yellow are such great summer colors.
I filled in the rest of the cabinet in much the same way I did when I decorated for July 4th. I grabbed items in my color scheme from around my home and my extensive stash. (I am a thrift store and flea market lover after all.) I found tackle boxes, candlesticks, books and seashells.
Shells make the perfect thing to add to summer home decor. We collected these sea shells on our trips to the beach. I placed them into glass jars to use in this display. If you don't have easy access to a beach to get shells, you can get some here.
This is always a favorite spot to decorate! And thanks to creative people like Emily, one can easily find inspiration!
So that's how I decorated for Summer - by making a Tiered Faux Succulent Display. How do you decorate for summer?
