I have a love/hate relationship with summer. I love the long lazy days, but I also dislike the heat, and lack of schedules. Anywho- since I can't control that it's summer, I may as well celebrate it! So celebrate I did by decking out my house in all things summer.
Farmhouse Style Summer Home Tour
As always, my style leans toward farmhouse. I love vintage, antique and well loved furniture. I love neutral furnishings with pops of color. For summer, I added a bunch of flags and other red, white and blue decor.
Outside
I like to keep my outdoor decorations simple. I hung buntings from the ceiling on my porch with a simple tool - paper clips.
On our Adirondack chairs I placed our pillows (made with super easy covers). Above the chairs I hung a tobacco star on the window. Our porch gets full afternoon sun so I used faux ferns in the buckets on my vintage ladder. At the door I layered a rubber rug on top of a buffalo check rug. I hung a vintage mailbox on the door with eucalyptus stems and flags.
Living Room
This spot on my green hardware cabinet is always a favorite place to decorate. Last season I decorated with a garden vignette and just changed a few things to make a patriotic one.
On top of our white cabinet, I placed some new-to-me bowling pins that I just got at the flea market. The next shelf down has a collection creamers, pitchers, spools, a metal tool box and a cute little farmhouse shelf sitter (that I also got at the flea market). On the next shelf I placed flags in a collection of vintage glass jars.
This little corner is one of my favorites. I grouped milk crates next to a vintage table that is holding a wood cubby. In the cubbies I have my extensive ironstone creamer, mugs and butter pat collections.
On top of the cubby I placed pitchers holding vintage spools and real touch tulips. On the lower shelf of the table I placed a basket of blankets. Even though it's summer, I still like to cuddle with a blanket in the evenings when watching shows with my husband.
Dining Room
I filled the wooden cubbies in my dining room with various vintage plates, thermoses, platters, milk glass vases, blue mason jars and topped it all off with small flags.
Kitchen
I know some people say that it dates a kitchen to decorate above cabinets, but I like the way it looks to have fun things displayed like thermoses, soda bottles and cake plates. So I say do what works best for you in your home despite what the trends are.
